Homemade Ice Cream in Plastic Bags

This simple recipe is perfect for making small individual ice-cream portions to sell, just like in the pictures.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups full-cream milk
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry-flavored drink powder or strawberry essence
  • A few drops of pink food coloring, optional
  • 2–3 tablespoons crushed biscuits or chocolate pieces, optional
  • Small food-grade plastic bags

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make the milk mixture

Pour 1½ cups of milk into a saucepan and add the sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

2. Thicken the mixture

Mix the remaining ½ cup milk with the custard powder in a separate cup until completely smooth.

Slowly pour it into the warm milk while stirring constantly.

3. Cook

Continue stirring for about 3–5 minutes, until the mixture becomes slightly thick and creamy.

Remove from the heat and allow it to cool completely.

4. Add the cream

Once the mixture has cooled, add the whipping cream and vanilla essence. Beat or whisk until well combined and slightly fluffy.

5. Make the strawberry flavor

Add the strawberry powder or essence and a little pink food coloring. Mix well until you have a beautiful pink color.

For a marbled effect like the pictures, don’t mix the pink completely—leave some white mixture visible.

6. Add your extras

If desired, add small pieces of crushed biscuits, chocolate, cookies, or caramel to create different flavors.

7. Fill the bags

Using a clean spoon or piping bag, carefully place the ice-cream mixture into small food-grade plastic bags.

Don’t fill them completely. Leave enough space at the top to tie them securely.

8. Seal

Twist the top of each bag several times and tie it tightly with a clean knot.

Make sure there are no leaks.

9. Freeze

Place the bags flat in the freezer and freeze for at least 6–8 hours, preferably overnight.

10. Sell and enjoy! 🍦💰

Once completely frozen, your homemade ice creams are ready to sell.

💡 Easy flavors to make

You can divide the mixture into several bowls and make:

  • 🍓 Strawberry — strawberry flavor + pink coloring
  • 🍫 Chocolate — cocoa powder + chocolate pieces
  • 🍪 Cookies & Cream — crushed chocolate biscuits
  • 🍌 Banana — banana essence or mashed ripe banana
  • 🍦 Vanilla — vanilla essence
  • 🍓🍫 Strawberry Chocolate Swirl — combine strawberry and chocolate mixtures without fully mixing

Tip for selling: Keep the portions small and consistent so you can easily calculate your cost per bag and your profit on every sale.
