Two officers entered the consultation room.
Daniel stood behind them.
He looked calm again.
“I just want my wife protected,” he said.
One officer turned toward me.
“Doctor, her husband says you’re preventing him from receiving information.”
“His wife arrived with a life-threatening infection hidden beneath a cast he refused to let me remove.”
Daniel interrupted.
“I never refused.”
I stared at him.
“You physically tried to stop me.”
“I was frightened.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“You were afraid I’d discover what was underneath.”
The officer looked at Daniel.
“What exactly happened to her arm?”
“She fell.”
“Where?”
“Down the stairs.”
“When?”
I looked at him.
“Interesting.”
The officer frowned.
“Why?”
I pulled up Emily’s medical imaging.
“Because these fractures don’t match a fall down stairs.”
Daniel’s face went pale.
“These injuries show repeated trauma.”
The officer stared at the scans.
Daniel immediately stepped backward.
“That doctor doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”
I pointed toward the evidence bag.
“We also recovered a surgical fragment from her arm.”
The officer’s expression changed.
“Mr. Harris, we’re going to need to ask you some questions.”
Daniel turned toward the door.
But the second officer blocked it.
“Sir, you’re not leaving.”
Daniel’s voice became frantic.
“You don’t understand.”
I looked at him.
“No.”
I said quietly.
“I think we’re finally beginning to understand.”
