Oven-Baked BBQ Ribs

  • by
  1. Prepare the ribs: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs for more tender results.
  2. Make the dry rub: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Season the ribs: Pat the ribs dry with paper towels. Rub them lightly with olive oil, then generously coat both sides with the seasoning mixture.
  4. Wrap the ribs: Place the seasoned ribs on a large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Wrap them tightly to seal in the moisture.
  5. Bake slowly: Place the wrapped ribs on a baking sheet and bake for approximately 2½–3½ hours, depending on their size, until the meat is very tender.
  6. Add the BBQ sauce: Carefully unwrap the ribs and discard the foil. Brush both sides generously with BBQ sauce.
  7. Finish uncovered: Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C). Return the ribs to the oven uncovered and bake for about 10–15 minutes, until the sauce becomes sticky and caramelized.
  8. Broil for extra caramelization: For beautifully charred edges, place the ribs under the broiler for 1–3 minutes, watching them closely so the sauce doesn’t burn.
  9. Rest and slice: Remove the ribs from the oven and let them rest for about 10 minutes. Slice between the bones and brush with additional BBQ sauce before serving.

Serve these tender ribs with creamy mashed potatoes, coleslaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, or crispy fries for a delicious barbecue-style meal.

The secret is low-and-slow baking followed by a hot, sticky BBQ finish! 🍖❤️
