Not tonight,” Ethan said, adjusting his cufflinks as if he were discussing something ordinary.

“Claire, please make your exit right now before you cause a scene,” Ethan hissed beneath his breath, stepping close to block her view of the VIP dais. His grip found her forearm, tight and warning. “Whatever game you’re playing, it ends tonight. Rashid Global is here for pedigree and legacy. Vanessa brings that to the table. You are an employee who overstepped.”

Vanessa offered a patronizing smirk, swirling her champagne flute. “Darling, run along back to your spreadsheets. The adults are handling the real business.”

Claire didn’t flinch. She simply looked down at Ethan’s hand on her arm until the sheer weight of her calm forced him to drop it.

“You told me I wasn’t your fiancée tonight, Ethan,” Claire said, her voice crystal clear. “You were right. But you forgot who built the foundation you’re standing on.”

Before Ethan could retaliate, a tall, impeccably tailored woman cut through the gathering crowd. It was Nadia Karim.

“Miss Bennett,” Nadia said warmly, ignoring Ethan and Vanessa entirely. “His Highness has been waiting for you. Please come with me.”

Ethan’s mouth opened, but no words came out. Vanessa’s smirk instantly faltered. With a sharp, sudden panic in his eyes, Ethan scrambled after them, dragging Vanessa along as Nadia guided Claire directly toward the private platform where Sheikh Adrian Rashid stood surrounded by his security and senior partners.

“Ah, Miss Bennett,” Sheikh Adrian greeted her in smooth English, stepping forward to offer a firm handshake. “It is an honor to finally meet the mind behind Meridian’s valuation model. The stress-test projections you sent over last Tuesday solved the entire restructuring puzzle for our risk committee.”

Ethan forced a breathless laugh, pushing into the circle. “Your Highness, forgive me, my director should have routed all communications through me as CEO. I’m Ethan Vale. And this is Vanessa Stone, whose family—”

Sheikh Adrian’s sharp gaze shifted to Ethan, cold and uninterested. “Mr. Vale, when you removed the original analyst names from the preliminary deck two weeks ago, did you assume my due diligence team wouldn’t verify the digital metadata on the proprietary algorithms?”

Silence fell across the immediate vicinity. Several board members leaned in, their expressions hardening.

“I… Your Highness, that was simply an administrative edit—” Ethan stammered, sweat breaking out at his hairline.

“It was intellectual fraud,” Sheikh Adrian said evenly. “Meridian’s pitch interested me only because of the cross-border risk assessment engineered entirely by Miss Bennett. Without her, Meridian is an empty shell with over-leveraged debt.”

The Sheikh turned back to Claire, offering an elegant envelope.

“Rashid Global has just acquired fifty-one percent of Meridian’s outstanding debt from the mezzanine lenders as of five o’clock this evening,” Sheikh Adrian announced. “We are restructuring the executive board. Miss Bennett, the offer to become Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of the newly formed venture stands. The contract is yours to sign.”

Vanessa gasped, stepping backward as if proximity to Ethan were suddenly toxic. “Ethan, you told me you were buying out the firm outright tonight!”

“I am! I will!” Ethan turned wild eyes toward Claire, desperation cracking through his polished facade. “Claire, stop this. We are partners! Four years, Claire! You can’t let them take Meridian from me!”

Claire looked at the man who had ordered her to hide in the shadows while he paraded another woman on the fruits of her labor.

“You’re right, Ethan. It took four years to build this,” Claire said softly, signing the document on the silver platter Nadia held out. She handed the pen back and looked Ethan straight in the eye. “And it took you one night to lose it all. Security will supervise you while you clear out your desk tomorrow morning.”

As Ethan stood frozen in the center of the ballroom under the glare of his former board members, Claire took a glass of vintage champagne, turned her back on him, and stepped into her new empire.
