My Grandma Taught Me This Simple Trick to Remove Mold From Windows

  • by

If you have noticed black or green spots of mold around your windows, bathroom corners, walls, or other damp areas of your home, you are not alone. Mold often appears where moisture, condensation, and poor ventilation come together, and once it becomes established, simply wiping the surface may not be enough.

The good news is that small areas of household mold can often be cleaned with a few basic supplies and a little patience. The key is not only removing the visible growth but also addressing the moisture that allowed it to develop in the first place.

Before cleaning, open windows and doors to improve ventilation. Wear household gloves and, if there is a significant amount of visible mold, consider wearing protective eyewear and an appropriate mask. Avoid disturbing large amounts of mold because scrubbing can release particles into the air.

For a small patch on a washable, non-porous surface, start by removing loose dirt with a damp disposable cloth. You can then use an appropriate household mold-cleaning product according to its label directions. For some surfaces, diluted white vinegar may be useful, but it should never be mixed with bleach, ammonia, or other cleaning chemicals. Chemical mixtures can create dangerous fumes.
