Kidney Health: Why “One-Hour” Herbal Cures Can Be Dangerous Claims

  • by

Herbal supplements require particular caution in people with kidney disease. Some herbs can affect blood pressure, blood sugar, electrolytes, or medication levels. Others may contain compounds that can place additional stress on already impaired kidneys.

If someone has swelling of the legs or face, persistent nausea, unusual fatigue, changes in urination, blood in the urine, shortness of breath, or unexplained itching, these symptoms deserve medical evaluation rather than treatment with an internet remedy.

A person receiving dialysis should never stop or reduce dialysis because of an herbal drink or social-media recipe. Dialysis decisions should be made by the treating nephrologist after reviewing kidney function, blood tests, fluid balance, and the underlying condition.

The most reliable way to protect kidney health is to manage conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes, use medications responsibly, avoid unnecessary supplements, maintain an appropriate diet and fluid intake, and have kidney function checked when medically indicated.

A natural herb may have an interesting history and may contain useful plant compounds, but “kidneys restored in one hour” is not a medically established claim. Dramatic before-and-after kidney images on social media should not be used as evidence that a particular herb can reverse kidney failure.
