I Broke Into My Ex‑Wife’s Backyard Cage and Held My Daughter as She Stared at the Pool, Terrified of What Lurks Below

  • by

I slipped the gardening pliers into the rusted padlock, the metal groaning as the bolt gave way.

“Chloe, sweetheart. It’s Dad,” I whispered, feeling her tiny body tremble against my chest.

She clung to my shirt, her eyes wide and dry, as I lifted her out of the cage.

The tarp fluttered, exposing the overgrown yard, the green pool glimmering like a diseased eye.

“Hold on, kiddo,” I muttered, stepping toward the chain‑locked gate, the weight of her small arms pulling me forward.

My pulse hammered in my ears as the last slab of metal gave way, the grate fully lifting to reveal a yawning stairwell.

Below, the smell of antiseptic and rust filled the air, and the sound of distant pipes clanged like a distant heartbeat.

“Leave,” a voice crackled through a hidden speaker, cold and unmistakable—Vincent’s tone, low and commanding, echoing off the concrete walls.

The basement of horrors
