Homemade “Collagen” with 2 Ingredients: A Simple Rosemary Oil Recipe

  • by

Use completely dry rosemary. Fresh rosemary contains water, which can increase the risk of spoilage when stored in oil.

If using rosemary from your garden, wash it and allow it to dry completely before preparing the infusion.

Step 2: Combine the Ingredients

Place the dried rosemary in a clean, dry glass jar.

Pour the carrier oil over the rosemary until it is completely covered.

Stir gently with a clean spoon to distribute the rosemary throughout the oil.

Step 3: Warm the Mixture

Place the jar in a saucepan containing a small amount of water, creating a gentle water bath.

Warm it over low heat for approximately 30–60 minutes. Do not allow the oil to become very hot or smoke.

Step 4: Cool and Strain

Remove the jar from the heat and allow the oil to cool completely.

Strain the rosemary through a clean, fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth.

Transfer the finished oil into a clean, dry, dark-colored bottle if available.

Step 5: How to Use It

For hair, massage a small amount into the scalp and through the lengths of the hair. Leave it on for a short period before washing, particularly if you have an oily scalp.

For skin, apply only a small amount to clean skin and avoid the eye area.

Before using it extensively, perform a small patch test because rosemary and other essential plant compounds can irritate sensitive skin.

What About Collagen?

Collagen is a structural protein produced by the body. A homemade rosemary oil cannot literally supply collagen to the skin.

For supporting normal collagen production, nutrition matters more than a single homemade oil. Adequate protein, vitamin C, fruits, vegetables, and overall balanced nutrition all contribute to normal skin health.

So rather than calling this mixture “homemade collagen,” a more accurate description is two-ingredient rosemary-infused oil for hair and skin care.

A simple recipe can still be useful without promising unrealistic results.
