Ginger, Onion, Garlic, Lemon & Honey Mixture: A Traditional Homemade Wellness Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated ginger
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 cup honey

Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients

Peel and finely chop the onion.

Mince the garlic.

Grate the fresh ginger.

Squeeze the juice from one lemon.

Step 2: Mix

In a clean bowl, combine:

  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Lemon juice

Pour in the honey and stir until everything is evenly mixed.

Step 3: Refrigerate

Transfer the mixture to a clean glass jar with a lid.

Refrigerate for 24 hours to allow the flavors to blend and the onion to release its juices.

Step 4: Strain (Optional)

You can strain the liquid to make a smooth syrup or leave the ingredients in the jar if you prefer a thicker mixture.

Store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

How to Use

Adults may take:

  • 1 teaspoon as needed for a sore throat or mild cough, up to a few times per day.

There is no scientific basis for waiting until the seventh day before using it. If you choose to make this mixture, it can be used after it has infused for about 24 hours.

Potential Benefits

This homemade mixture may:

  • Help soothe a scratchy throat.
  • Provide a comforting flavor.
  • Support hydration when taken with warm water or tea.
  • Add antioxidants and nutrients to your diet.

These effects are generally mild and should not be considered a treatment for illness.

Safety Tips

  • Do not give honey to babies under 1 year old.
  • Garlic and ginger may increase bleeding risk in people taking blood-thinning medications.
  • If you have diabetes, remember that honey contains natural sugars and should be consumed in moderation.
  • Stop using the mixture if you experience an allergic reaction or stomach discomfort.
