Nausea can appear unexpectedly and leave you feeling uncomfortable, especially after a heavy meal, during mild stomach upset, or when your digestive system simply does not feel right. Many people turn to simple home remedies before considering over-the-counter medication, and ginger and cinnamon are two traditional ingredients that have been used in warm drinks for generations.
This cinnamon and ginger remedy is easy to prepare and requires only a few basic ingredients. The combination creates a warm, aromatic tea that can be sipped slowly when you feel nauseated.
To prepare it, you will need two small cinnamon sticks, a thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, and approximately 500 mL of water. Wash and peel the ginger if desired, then slice it into thin pieces. Place the ginger and cinnamon sticks into a small saucepan with the water.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and allow it to simmer for approximately 10 to 15 minutes. This gives the water time to take on the flavor and aroma of the ingredients. Once finished, remove it from the heat, allow it to cool slightly, and strain it into a cup.
When nausea occurs, drink approximately one cup slowly rather than consuming it quickly. Sipping a warm beverage gradually may be more comfortable when your stomach feels unsettled. If you tolerate it well, the drink can traditionally be used once or twice during the day for a short period.
