A warm homemade drink made with chayote, garlic, and lemon is a simple way to add more vegetables and fresh ingredients to your daily routine. Each ingredient brings its own flavor and nutritional qualities, creating a refreshing tonic that can be enjoyed as part of a balanced lifestyle.
Chayote is a mild, crisp vegetable that contains water, fiber, vitamin C, and several minerals. Garlic provides a strong savory flavor along with naturally occurring sulfur-containing compounds, while lemon adds brightness and vitamin C.
This combination does not replace prescribed medication or serve as a proven treatment for high blood pressure, anemia, high cholesterol, swollen feet, or knee pain. However, it can be enjoyed as a nutritious homemade beverage alongside an overall healthy diet.
Ingredients
- 1 medium chayote
- 2–3 cloves fresh garlic
- 1 lemon
- 3 cups water
- Optional: a small piece of fresh ginger
- Optional: a few mint leaves
Step 1: Prepare the Chayote
Wash the chayote thoroughly under running water.
Peel it if desired, then cut it into smaller pieces. Removing the seed is optional, but doing so can make the drink easier to strain later.
Step 2: Prepare the Garlic
Peel two or three garlic cloves and lightly crush them with the side of a knife.
Crushing the cloves releases their natural compounds and allows their flavor to infuse into the water.
If you prefer a milder flavor, start with only one clove.
Step 3: Simmer the Chayote
