Baby Oil and Clove Skincare Blend for Softer-Looking Skin

  • by

Dry, dull skin can often benefit from a simple moisturizing routine. Baby oil can help reduce moisture loss and leave the skin feeling soft and smooth. Clove is sometimes used in traditional beauty preparations, but clove oil and concentrated clove extracts can irritate the skin, particularly on the face, so they should be used cautiously and in very small amounts.

Here is a gentle version of the idea shown in the image.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of fragrance-free baby oil or mineral oil
  • 1 whole clove, lightly crushed
  • A small clean glass jar with a lid

Step 1: Prepare the Clove

Lightly crush one whole clove. Do not use a large quantity because clove contains eugenol, a concentrated compound that may cause irritation when applied to sensitive skin.

Step 2: Infuse the Oil

Place the crushed clove in the jar and add 2 tablespoons of baby oil.

Close the jar and leave it in a cool, dark place for 24–48 hours.

Step 3: Strain Carefully

Strain the oil through a clean fine filter or piece of clean gauze to remove all pieces of clove.

Do not apply pieces of clove directly to the skin.

Step 4: Perform a Patch Test

Before using the mixture on your face, apply a tiny amount to a small area of your forearm or behind your ear. Wait at least 24 hours and check for redness, burning, itching, or swelling.

If irritation occurs, wash the area and do not use the mixture.

Step 5: Apply a Small Amount

If your skin tolerates the patch test, place one or two drops between your fingertips and gently press the oil onto dry areas of skin.

Avoid the eyes, lips, broken skin, and areas affected by eczema or active irritation.

Step 6: Use It as a Moisturizing Step

For dry skin, this type of oil can be used after a gentle moisturizer to help reduce moisture loss. You do not need to apply a large amount.

A 21-day routine may help the skin feel softer and more moisturized, but it cannot make someone look decades younger or permanently remove wrinkles.

An Important Alternative

For facial skin, a plain fragrance-free moisturizer is generally a simpler choice than adding clove. During the daytime, use broad-spectrum sunscreen, since regular sun protection is one of the most effective ways to reduce premature skin aging.

Clove is not necessary for healthy skin, and stronger concentrations are not better. If your skin is sensitive, keeping the routine simple with moisturizer and sunscreen is the safer approach.
