1. Slice the onions
Peel the onions and slice them very thinly into rings or strips. The thinner they are, the crispier they become.
Separate the onion pieces with your fingers.
2. Season
Place the sliced onions in a large bowl.
Add olive oil, flour or cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Toss thoroughly until the onions are lightly coated.
3. Preheat the air fryer
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3 minutes.
4. Add the onions
Spread the onions in the air fryer basket in as even a layer as possible.
Avoid packing the basket too tightly. Cook in batches if necessary.
5. Air fry
Cook for 10–15 minutes, shaking the basket every 3–4 minutes so the onions cook evenly.
Keep a close eye on them during the final few minutes because thin onions can go from golden to burnt quickly.
6. Make the dip
While the onions cook, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, lemon juice, garlic powder, and black pepper in a small bowl.
Refrigerate until ready to serve.
7. Cool and crisp
Transfer the cooked onions to a plate lined with paper towels.
Let them cool for a few minutes. They’ll become even crispier as they cool.
8. Serve
Use your crispy onions as a topping for burgers, hot dogs, baked potatoes, salads, soups, casseroles, or sandwiches.
Or simply grab some and dip them into the creamy sauce! 😋
What would you add them to first—burgers, salad, soup, or would you eat them straight from the bowl? 🧅❤️
