After spending three years in prison, I came home expecting to hug my father, but my stepmother opened the door and said

Walter finally told me what had happened.

My father had been diagnosed with cancer.

But it wasn’t as sudden as Reagan claimed.

He had known for nearly two years.

During that time, he quietly gathered evidence against Reagan and Carter.

He also discovered that they were planning to take control of the company.

When my father realized they were preparing to frame me, he created the storage unit.

He made copies of every document.

He recorded conversations.

He transferred money into a protected account.

And he arranged for me to receive everything after his death.

But he knew Reagan would try to destroy the evidence.

So he made Walter promise to keep the location secret.

“Why didn’t Dad fight the conviction?”

I asked.

Walter looked at me sadly.

“He tried.”

“What do you mean?”

“He hired an attorney.”

“Then why wasn’t I told?”

“Because Reagan intercepted the messages.”

My stomach turned.

She had isolated me.

She had convinced everyone that my father wanted nothing to do with me.

And while I was sitting in prison, she had taken control of everything.

Including the house.

Including the company.

Including my father’s life.

PART 7 — I Went Home

The next morning, I returned to my father’s house.

Reagan opened the door.

Her expression immediately hardened.

“I told you to stay away.”

I held up a folder.

“You lied to me.”

She went pale.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You told me my father died a year ago.”

Silence.

“You told me he left this house to you.”

She said nothing.

“You told everyone I stole from him.”

Carter appeared behind her.

“Get out.”

I looked at him.

“That’s interesting.”

I pulled out the legal agreement.

“Because according to Dad’s will, you don’t own this house.”

Carter’s face changed.

Reagan grabbed his arm.

“Carter…”

I continued.

“And according to the corporate documents, you don’t control the company either.”

Reagan stepped toward me.

“You have no idea what you’re doing.”

“No.”

I smiled.

“For the first time in three years, I know exactly what I’m doing.”

I placed a copy of the documents on the table.

“I’m giving these to the police.”

Carter lunged toward me.

Before he could reach me, two officers entered through the open door.

“Carter Dennis?”

He froze.

“You’re under arrest.”

Reagan screamed.

“This is ridiculous!”

The officers turned toward her.

“Reagan Dennis, you’re under arrest as well.”

Her face collapsed.

As they placed handcuffs around her wrists, she looked at me.

“You’re destroying everything!”

I shook my head.

“No.”

“You’re taking my house!”

“No.”

I looked around the hallway.

“This was never yours.”
