An enlarged prostate can make nighttime feel like a constant cycle of waking up, rushing to the bathroom, struggling to start urinating, dealing with a weak stream, or feeling as though the bladder never completely empties. These symptoms are common with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate that becomes more common with age.
You may have seen claims that a green drink can “shrink the prostate overnight” or stop nighttime bathroom trips within 12 hours. While a nutritious drink can be part of a healthy lifestyle, there is no proven juice or homemade recipe that can physically shrink an enlarged prostate in one night. A drink should therefore be viewed as a supportive dietary option, not a replacement for proper prostate care.
One simple green drink can be prepared with fresh tomatillos, cucumber, a small amount of ginger, lemon, and water. Wash the ingredients thoroughly before preparing them.
For one serving, use 3–4 fresh tomatillos, ½ cucumber, a small piece of fresh ginger, the juice of ½ lemon, and approximately 1 cup of water. Remove the outer husks from the tomatillos and rinse them well. Wash the cucumber and ginger. Cut everything into small pieces and place the ingredients into a blender.
Add the water and blend until the mixture becomes smooth. If you prefer a thinner drink, add a little more water. Drink it fresh rather than adding large amounts of sugar.
This recipe can provide fluids and nutrients as part of a balanced diet, but it should not be described as a cure for BPH. If your goal is better prostate health, the bigger picture matters much more than any single drink.
Try to avoid drinking large amounts of fluid immediately before bedtime. Caffeine and alcohol can also make nighttime urination worse for some people. Instead, consume most of your fluids earlier in the day and keep evening drinks moderate.
Regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight can also support overall metabolic and cardiovascular health. If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or other chronic conditions, keeping them well controlled is particularly important.
It is also important to understand that burning during urination is not automatically caused by an enlarged prostate. Burning can occur with urinary infections, prostatitis, bladder problems, stones, or other urinary conditions. If burning continues, becomes severe, or is accompanied by fever, chills, blood in the urine, pelvic pain, or cloudy urine, medical evaluation is important.
If you are waking several times every night to urinate, have difficulty starting your stream, frequently experience urgency, dribbling, or feel that your bladder does not empty completely, make an appointment with a healthcare professional. A proper evaluation can determine whether BPH is actually responsible for the symptoms.
Treatment for an enlarged prostate depends on the severity of symptoms and the individual’s health. Some men with mild symptoms can manage them through lifestyle changes and monitoring. Others may benefit from prescription medications that improve urine flow or reduce prostate growth. In more advanced cases, minimally invasive procedures or surgery may be considered.
Most importantly, never ignore an inability to urinate. Complete urinary retention can require urgent medical treatment.
A fresh green drink can be a refreshing addition to a balanced diet, but there is no reliable evidence that it can shrink an enlarged prostate overnight or permanently stop nighttime urination within 12 hours. The best approach is to combine healthy habits with appropriate medical evaluation so that the actual cause of urinary symptoms can be identified and treated safely.
