A Simple Kidney-Friendly Drink for Your Daily Routine

  • by

When protein is found in the urine, it can be a sign that the kidneys are allowing more protein to pass through their filtering system than they normally should. This is known as proteinuria or albuminuria. It should not be ignored, because persistent protein in the urine can be associated with kidney disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other conditions.

A homemade drink cannot make protein disappear from the urine overnight or repair damaged kidneys in a single night. However, a simple, unsweetened vegetable-based drink can be included in a balanced diet for people who have no medical restriction against the ingredients.

One refreshing option is a cucumber, apple, and lemon drink.

To prepare it, you will need one small cucumber, half an apple, one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and one cup of water.

Wash the cucumber and apple thoroughly. Cut them into small pieces and remove the apple seeds. Place everything in a blender with the water and blend until smooth.

Add the fresh lemon juice and blend for a few additional seconds. If you prefer a thinner drink, add a little more water. Do not add large amounts of sugar.

Pour the drink into a glass and consume it immediately. You can strain it if you prefer a smoother texture, although leaving some of the pulp provides additional fiber.

This drink can be a refreshing way to include fruit and vegetables in your diet, but it should be viewed as a nutritious beverage rather than a kidney treatment.

If you have protein in your urine, the most important step is finding out why it is happening. A healthcare professional may recommend urine testing, blood tests, blood-pressure measurements, and evaluation of kidney function. Conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes can affect the kidneys and may require specific treatment.

People with kidney disease should also remember that dietary recommendations are not the same for everyone. Some individuals may need to monitor sodium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, or fluid intake depending on their kidney function and other medical conditions. A drink that is appropriate for one person may not be appropriate for another.

For better long-term kidney health, focus on regular hydration when medically appropriate, a balanced diet, healthy blood pressure and blood sugar levels, regular physical activity, avoiding smoking, and taking prescribed medications exactly as directed.

If you have swelling around your legs or eyes, noticeably reduced urine, blood in the urine, severe weakness, shortness of breath, or rapidly worsening symptoms, seek medical attention rather than trying to treat the problem with a homemade drink.

A daily vegetable-and-fruit drink can be part of a healthy routine, but there is no reliable recipe that can make urinary protein disappear in one night or regenerate damaged kidneys immediately. Persistent protein in the urine deserves proper testing and medical follow-up.
