Garlic Boiled in Milk: Recipe, Potential Benefits, and How to Prepare It

Garlic and milk are two familiar ingredients found in kitchens around the world. Garlic has been used in traditional cooking and folk remedies for centuries, while milk provides protein, calcium, and other essential nutrients.

Combining these ingredients creates a warm, savory drink that some people enjoy as part of their daily routine. Although social media sometimes describes garlic milk as a “life-saving treasure,” it is important to distinguish traditional uses from scientifically established health benefits.

Ingredients

To prepare a simple garlic milk drink, you will need:

  • 1 cup (250 ml) of milk
  • 2–3 garlic cloves, peeled and lightly crushed
  • ½ teaspoon of honey, optional
  • A small pinch of cinnamon, optional

Tip: Start with one garlic clove if you are unfamiliar with the taste, as garlic can be quite strong.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and gently crush them with the flat side of a knife. Crushing releases some of the garlic’s naturally occurring sulfur compounds.

Step 2: Heat the Milk

Pour the milk into a small saucepan and heat it over low to medium heat. Avoid allowing it to boil over.

Step 3: Add the Garlic

Add the crushed garlic to the warm milk and stir gently.

Step 4: Simmer

Allow the mixture to simmer gently for approximately 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the garlic softens. Keep the heat low to prevent the milk from scorching.

Step 5: Strain and Serve

Remove the saucepan from the heat. Strain the mixture if you prefer a smoother drink, then allow it to cool to a comfortable drinking temperature.

If desired, add a little honey once the drink has cooled slightly.

Step 6: Enjoy

Serve the drink warm. There is no established medical requirement to drink it on an empty stomach or consume the entire serving at once.
