I don’t know if I’m being dramatic, but this situation bothered me much more than I expected.
It was a rainy day at Kroger, and the parking lot was absolutely packed.
Cars were slowly circling the rows, people were waiting for spaces, and shoppers were trying to find somewhere close enough to the entrance so they wouldn’t have to walk through the rain.
Then I noticed something that really caught my attention.
Right near the front of the store, there was a man sitting in a parked car.
At first, I didn’t think much of it.
Then I realized he was completely reclined in the driver’s seat.
And he appeared to be fast asleep.
Step 1: The Parking Lot Was Packed
This wasn’t an empty parking lot where there were dozens of available spaces.
People were actively looking for somewhere to park.
Cars were waiting.
Some shoppers were driving around repeatedly looking for an open spot.

Step 2: Then I Looked More Closely
The man wasn’t simply sitting in his car checking his phone.
He appeared to be completely asleep.
His seat was reclined, his eyes were closed, and he looked completely unaware of everything happening around him.
I couldn’t help wondering how long he had been there.
Maybe it had only been a few minutes.
Maybe it had been much longer.
There was no way for me to know.
