Knee stiffness can make ordinary activities such as walking, climbing stairs, standing up, or getting out of a chair uncomfortable. When my dad began dealing with achy and stiff knees, we looked for a simple addition to his daily routine that could support his overall joint health.
One ingredient that stood out was turmeric. Turmeric contains curcumin, a compound that has been studied for its potential anti-inflammatory effects. While turmeric cannot rebuild damaged cartilage or cure arthritis, some research suggests that curcumin may help reduce joint discomfort in certain people.
Here is a simple turmeric drink that can be prepared at home in just a few minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon honey, optional
- ½ teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional
- A small piece of fresh ginger, grated, optional
Step 1: Warm the Water
Heat approximately one cup of water until it is warm but not boiling.
Pour the water into a glass or mug.
Step 2: Add the Turmeric
Add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder to the warm water.
Stir thoroughly until the turmeric is distributed throughout the drink.
Turmeric has a strong earthy flavor, so starting with a small amount can make the drink easier to enjoy.
Step 3: Add a Little Black Pepper
