Cloudy or blurry vision is a symptom that should never be ignored, especially when it appears suddenly or continues to get worse. A viral claim suggests that taking a spoonful of celery juice every night can clear cloudy vision and restore sharper eyesight. Celery is a nutritious vegetable, but there is no reliable evidence that a spoonful of celery juice can remove cataracts, clear a cloudy lens, or reverse an eye disease.
Celery contains water, vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds that can be part of a healthy diet. Eating vegetables regularly supports overall health, including cardiovascular health, but nutrition should not be confused with a treatment for an existing eye disorder.
Cloudy vision can have many different causes. Cataracts are one common cause, particularly as people get older. A cataract develops when the normally clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy, which can cause blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night, sensitivity to bright light, faded colors, or halos around lights.
A juice or homemade remedy cannot dissolve a cataract. When a cataract significantly interferes with daily activities, an eye specialist can evaluate the condition and discuss appropriate treatment.
Other causes of blurry or cloudy vision can include dry eyes, changes in prescription, diabetes-related eye disease, glaucoma, retinal problems, inflammation, infection, or certain medications. Because these conditions require very different treatments, assuming that every case can be corrected with the same drink can delay proper care.
The images commonly used in viral posts can also be misleading. Redness, swelling, discharge, or a cloudy-looking eye can indicate an eye problem that requires medical attention rather than a nutritional remedy. Putting homemade celery juice or other mixtures directly into the eyes is particularly unsafe because unsterile liquids can introduce bacteria and cause serious infection.
If you enjoy celery, there is nothing wrong with including it in a balanced diet. You can wash fresh celery thoroughly and add it to salads, soups, smoothies, or a homemade vegetable drink. However, it should be treated as food rather than as a medication for cloudy vision.
A simple celery drink can be made by blending several washed celery stalks with water and optionally adding cucumber, a small amount of apple, or lemon for flavor. Drinking it can contribute to your overall intake of vegetables and fluids, but it should not be expected to restore damaged eyesight.
People with diabetes should pay particular attention to changes in vision because prolonged high blood sugar can affect the blood vessels in the retina and contribute to serious eye complications. Managing blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol and attending recommended eye examinations can be much more important for long-term vision than any single juice.
Anyone experiencing sudden loss of vision, a sudden increase in floaters, flashes of light, a dark curtain or shadow across the field of vision, severe eye pain, significant redness, or rapidly worsening vision should seek urgent medical attention.
For gradual changes in eyesight, an eye examination can determine whether the problem is caused by cataracts, refractive changes, dry eyes, glaucoma, retinal disease, or another condition. Early evaluation is especially important because some eye diseases can progress before noticeable symptoms become severe.
There is no magic spoonful that can guarantee crystal-clear vision overnight. A diet rich in vegetables and other nutrient-dense foods can support general health, but protecting your eyesight requires identifying the actual cause of vision changes and receiving the appropriate treatment when necessary.
