5 Cleaning Hacks That Will Make Your Kitchen Cabinets Look Brand New

  • by

Kitchen cabinets can collect years of grease, dust, fingerprints, cooking residue, and sticky buildup without you even noticing. Because the cabinets are exposed to steam and airborne oils every day, their original finish can gradually become dull and dirty.

The good news is that you don’t always need expensive cleaning products to make wooden kitchen cabinets look fresh again. With a few simple techniques and the right amount of care, you can remove stubborn grime while protecting the wood and its finish.

Before trying any cleaning method, check what type of finish your cabinets have and test the solution on a small, hidden area. Avoid soaking wooden cabinets, because excessive moisture can damage wood, loosen veneer, or cause swelling.

The first hack is one of the simplest: warm water and a small amount of dish soap.

Mix warm water with a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid. Dip a soft microfiber cloth into the mixture and wring it out extremely well. The cloth should be damp, not dripping wet.

Wipe the cabinet doors, handles, and areas around the cooking zone where grease tends to accumulate. For stubborn areas, allow the damp cloth to sit against the residue briefly before gently wiping again.

Dish soap works particularly well because it is designed to break down grease and oily food residue. Once the dirt has been removed, wipe the surface with another clean, slightly damp cloth and dry it immediately with a soft towel.

The second hack is using baking soda carefully on stubborn sticky spots.

Baking soda can provide gentle cleaning power, but it should not be aggressively scrubbed onto delicate finishes. Mix a small amount with water to create a soft paste.
