THE SECRET BEHIND SARAH’S MADNESS — EPISODE 2
I stood in the dark passage staring at the photograph.
My hands were shaking.
“Do not tell anybody I came.”
Six words.
But suddenly, every strange thing I had heard about Sarah over the past three years began to feel different.
I picked up the photograph and turned it over again.
Nothing else.
I ran outside.
“Sarah!”
No answer.
I checked the compound.
Nothing.
The gate was still locked from inside.
There was nowhere she could have gone that quickly.
I returned to my room and locked the door.
That night, I didn’t sleep.
At exactly 3:17 a.m., my phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
One message.
“If you want to know the truth about Sarah, don’t trust David’s family.”
I stared at the screen.
Then another message arrived.
“And whatever you do, don’t open David’s old room.”
My heart started pounding.
Because there was one problem.
David’s old room was directly across from mine.
And for three years, everyone had told us it was empty.
THE NEXT MORNING
I went to see Mama Grace, the oldest woman in our compound.
She had known Sarah before everything happened.
I showed her the photograph.
The moment she saw it, her expression changed.
“Where did you get this?”
“Sarah left it in my room.”
Mama Grace looked around before lowering her voice.
“Michael, you should forget this matter.”
“Why?”
“Because the people who destroyed Sarah are still around.”
I froze.
“What do you mean?”
She didn’t answer.
Instead, she asked:
“Did she speak normally?”
“Yes.”
“Did she look frightened?”
“Yes.”
Mama Grace sighed.
“Then she is getting close.”
“Close to what?”
She stared at me for several seconds.
“The truth.”
THREE YEARS EARLIER
According to Mama Grace, Sarah had not simply returned home and found another woman with David.
There had been something much worse.
The woman wasn’t David’s lover.
She was someone who had been sent there.
Sarah had discovered documents in David’s room—documents connected to a large amount of money that had disappeared from a company where David worked.
David had apparently been blamed for the missing money.
But Sarah discovered that somebody else had been moving the money.
Someone inside his own family.
Before she could tell anyone, David disappeared.
Two days later, Sarah returned from visiting her mother.
That was when she found the woman inside the house.
The woman threatened her.
Then came the beating.
And the threats.
“If you talk, your husband dies.”
Sarah didn’t scream.
She didn’t fight.
She simply walked away.
And after that, she began acting as though she had lost her mind.
Everyone thought she had gone crazy.
But Mama Grace whispered something that made my blood run cold.
“She was pretending.”
THE WOMAN EVERYONE CALLED MAD
“She realized they were watching her,” Mama Grace continued.
“So she made them believe she couldn’t remember anything.”
I couldn’t speak.
“For three years?”
Mama Grace nodded.
“Three years.”
“Why would she do that?”
“To survive.”
I remembered Sarah standing in my room the night before.
The calm voice.
The perfectly arranged hair.
The way she had spoken about David’s room.
She wasn’t mad.
She had been hiding.
Then Mama Grace grabbed my wrist.
“Michael, listen carefully. Sarah trusted you because you never joined the people who mocked her.”
“What does she want me to do?”
“Nothing.”
She looked toward the road.
“Unless she comes back.”
SHE CAME BACK THAT NIGHT
At 11:40 p.m., there was a soft knock on my window.
I almost jumped.
I opened the curtain.
Sarah stood outside.
This time she was wearing an old dress and had deliberately messed up her hair.
The “mad woman” was back.
I opened the window.
She climbed inside.
“Why did you tell me about David’s room?” I whispered.
She looked directly at me.
“Because you’re the only person I can trust.”
Then she reached inside her clothing and pulled out a tiny memory card.
“David left this for me.”
“What is it?”
“Proof.”
“Proof of what?”
She looked toward the door.
“That my husband was murdered.”
My entire body went cold.
“David is dead?”
Sarah nodded.
“But everyone said he left.”
“I know.”
She handed me the memory card.
“He didn’t leave me.”
“Then what happened?”
Tears appeared in her eyes for the first time.
“They killed him because he discovered where the money was going.”
I stared at the card.
“Who?”
Sarah’s voice dropped to a whisper.
“His brother.”
I couldn’t breathe.
Then she added:
“And someone else.”
“Who?”
Sarah looked toward the photograph in my hand.
“Someone you see every single day.”
Before I could ask another question, we heard footsteps outside.
Sarah immediately dropped her shoulders and began laughing wildly.
The transformation was terrifying.
“Crazy woman!” she shouted.
Then she jumped through the window and disappeared into the darkness.
Seconds later, someone knocked on my door.
It was David’s younger brother.
He smiled.
“Michael, everything okay?”
I looked at him.
“Yes.”
He stared at the floor.
Then at the photograph of David.
His smile disappeared.
“You found that?”
I said nothing.
He stepped closer.
“Where?”
I still didn’t answer.
For several seconds, we stared at each other.
Then he smiled again.
But this time, there was nothing friendly about it.
“Be careful, Michael.”
He turned and walked away.
I locked the door.
Then I inserted the memory card into my laptop.
One video file appeared.
DAVID_FINAL_01
I clicked it.
The screen went black.
Then David’s face appeared.
He looked frightened.
He leaned toward the camera and whispered:
“If you’re watching this, I’m already dead.”
I covered my mouth.
David continued.
“I didn’t run away.”
He looked over his shoulder.
“They are going to make Sarah look insane.”
A pause.
“Don’t believe them.”
Then he said the words that changed everything:
“The person responsible is someone Sarah loves and trusts more than anyone.”
The video suddenly ended.
And behind me…
I heard my bedroom door slowly open.
I turned around.
Sarah was standing there.
But she wasn’t alone.
Someone was standing behind her.
