Social media is full of homemade wellness drinks claiming to “cleanse the body,” “boost immunity,” or “fight infections.” One popular recipe combines cinnamon, garlic, ginger, and onion in a simple tea that’s simmered for about 15 minutes.
While each ingredient contains beneficial plant compounds, there is no scientific evidence that this drink can cure diseases, detox the body, or replace medical treatment. It can, however, be enjoyed as a warm, flavorful beverage as part of a balanced diet.
Ingredients
- 2 cinnamon sticks (or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
- 4 cloves garlic, peeled and lightly crushed
- 1 medium onion, sliced (red or white)
- 2-inch piece fresh ginger, sliced
- 4 cups (1 liter) water
- 1–2 teaspoons honey (optional, added after cooking)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
